Furtherto the erratic idle and whining sound - update: 1. Cleaned and tested pcv valve. 2. Tested for vacuum leaks around hoses, joins and inlet manifold. tested for blockages in hoses. 3. Done throttle reset. Here is a video of the sound from engine when idling after warming engine.
Anyway you have 4 basic issues here to look at. 1/ The pump priming - From your description the pump is working perfectly. It only runs when the Accumulator pressure drops below 36.5 Bar and cuts out at 46 Bar (in the 159 2.2 Selespeed, other models run at slightly different pressures.)
Asfar as I am aware, the pumps used on the Alfa 2.2 jts are made by Bosch, and use a piston system so should not be a problem. So either it was assumed that the fuel pumps are the same as the Vauxhall engine, or there is something else on the 2.2 jts which is deemed not compatible.

EngineManagement Light I would advise that you find another example. I have had the same problem on my Brera 2.2. The timing chain has been replaced twice and now the engine management is once again illuminated. The engine management warning light returned after about 8000 miles on both occasions.
