If you're looking at two very different majors, though, you'd likely need to take a lot of additional credits to fulfill both programs, which means more time and more money. Once you've graduated, being "a double major" doesn't count for much in itself. The main advantage is that it can potentially open up additional career opportunities.
But to be honest, you could double major at pretty much any school, try to seriously consider the extent of (if any) additional benefits you would have at an inflexible dual degree program vs. just double majoring. TL;DR: Turned down Yale and Stanford for a Penn dual degree, highly regretting it.

If you're set on working as a librarian, a dual degree might have a benefit if you're aiming to do something like be a subject specialist librarian at a university, law librarian, or medical librarian. I considered doing a dual degree MA in history and MLS, and I am so glad I didn't.

Basically an additional major is when you just complete the requirements for the major (without the gen ed requirements). The additional major isn't really worth any less than the dual degree.
