The narrator goes on to describe the conversation the men had with the government official. To the peasants dismay this man explained to them that they could have all the land on the Big Plain up to the town. La La Land represents artists as individuals who struggle to reconcile their creativity with everyday life. In both films, the main characters have to sacrifice their relationships in an attempt to achieve their dreams. At the end of La La Land, we see that Seb and Mia have achieved their goals, but Arturo’s maternal grandparents—Abuela and Abuelo—left Cuba in 1979 to settle in Miami. They opened a restaurant, La Cocina de la Isla, which, 19 years later, has become an institution in their Canal Grove neighborhood. Abuelo died when Arturo was very young. The problem is presented almost immediately: the masked man is recruiting an army of villains from literature (Captain Hook, the Wicked Witch, etc.).
